CHAGFORD FC 'find of the season', goalkeeper Saul Scarry, has been accepted into the Bristol Academy of Sport. The 18 year old went to Filton College in a trial and was selected from a large group of potential candidates. Saul has been coached regularly by ex-Plymouth Argyle professional Jon Sheffield and advertised, earlier in the past season, for a regular place within a club. Representatives from Chagford, in the hope of resolving their goalkeeping crisis, travelled down to the coaching class in Callington and were immediately impressed with what they saw of the Plymouth-based youngster. Thankfully, Saul and his family were prepared to travel to the club's South Devon League matches and he has become a regular in the first team. Such was the esteem his colleagues held him in, he was voted the players' player of the season. Although he will be residing, training and studying in Bristol, during the week, Saul has pledged himself to playing for Chagford on the weekends despite the commuting involved. His age group at Rovers play on Wednesdays, so the arrangement suits all parties. Chagford's executive secretary, John Pearce, was ecstatic when he heard both of Saul's acceptance and his commitment to Chagford. He said: 'The lad is tremendously talented and we recognised he has the ability and attitude to do this well and even better for himself. 'From the time he joined us, just a few months ago, we promised we would not stand in the way of such talent - indeed, it is part of the club ethos we encourage players to try and better themselves. 'For him to repay that with his own commitment to us says everything about Saul's attitude. 'We know there will come a time when we have to bid him farewell but he can rest assured he will have the whole club's support, now and in the future.'
