A PACKED programme of entertainment has been laid on at Plymouth's Theatre Royal this spring. The season kicks off with the Olivier Award-winning smash hit musical Guys and Dolls, from Tuesday January 23 to February 3, starring Bonnie Langford and Joe McGann. Featuring a sensational cast and live orchestra, this electrifying production is full of breathtaking dance routines, fabulous costumes and is bursting with classic hits. Hot on its heels comes Blonde Bombshells of 1943 by Alan Plater, on February 5. This warm and witty play is filled with live swing band performances of 1940s classics by Fats Waller, The Andrews sisters and Glenn Miller. For the half term break, there is something for younger theatre-goers — Tracy Beaker Gets Real. Youngsters can join the UK's most popular and volatile girl when she explodes onto the stage with this brand new show with music for all the family. Get tough, get wise, get real and get Beaker! Hampstead Theatre on Tour presents Comfort Me With Apples from Tuesday February 20 to Saturday February 24. A rich and evocative drama about life in a changing rural landscape, this breathtaking production, shot through with the echoes of a haunting ancient wisdom, sees a traditional way of life unravelling. At the end of the month, the Theatre Royal welcomes back the Birmingham Royal Ballet, who perform a classic romantic comedy in Stravinsky! choreographed by David Bintley and with music by Carl Davis. Razzle dazzle hits the stage between February 27 and March 3 as the international award winning musical Chicago returns to Plymouth. With its sassy score including classics like All That Jazz and Razzle Dazzle, the musical has won six Tony awards, two Oliviers, one Grammy, two Baftas and six Academy awards. A new piece, Complicite, which spans two continents and explores the dreams of nomadic society, comes to the theatre in March. Hot from two critically acclaimed sell-out seasons in the West End, Shane Ritchie stars in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for one week only, starting April 4. Breathtaking dance routines and unforgettable songs make up Fame The Musical, which takes to the stage on April 4, while the Welsh National Opera makes a return visit to Plymouth on April 18 with two well-known operas — Madam Butterfly and Carmen. Anthony Neilson's award-winning The Wonderful Word of Dissocia, originally produced by the Drum Theatre in 2004, returns to the Theatre Royal on April 24. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alive, this is a hugely original play, both funny and frightening. The greatest hits of the disco decade are included in Boogie Nights, starring 70s legend Alvin Stardust and Anthony Costa from boy band Blue. Celebrating its tenth birthday, the show begins on April 30. Charley's Aunt, from May 7 to 12, sees actor Stephen Tompkinson as you've never seen him before! This comedy classic, filled with mistaken identities, cross dressing, deranged uncles and ravishing young ladies in Edwardian Oxfordshire, is directed by comedy maestro Mel Smith. The spring season finishes in style with Hot Flush when an all-star cast including Sheila Ferguson, Rula Lenska, Marti Webb and Sam Kane provide the perfect girls' night out, packed with fabulous new songs and a sprinkling of HRT.
