TAVISTOCK Girls? football team travelled to Newquay at the Bank Holiday weekend and put out two teams.

On the Saturday the girls had a day of soccer skills and coaching from Newquay Ladies? FC. Sunday was an all-day tournament and in glorious sunshine the U12s and U14s took on teams from Cornwall and two from Portsmouth.

The U14s found the going tough and despite playing good football were unable to get a win and make the final.

The U12s won all their five qualifying matches and went into the cup final full of confidence.

The first half saw Tavistock having most of the possession but no goals. Two minutes before time Rebecca McMullin passed a long ball through the defence for Kim Davey to run on to and strike into the net for her eighth goal of the tournament. This also won Kim the top goalscorer award.

Team captains Robyn Hammond and Rebecca Rose picked up the cup to bring home to Tavistock.

U12 squad: manager Sue Hammond, captains Robyn Hammond and Rebecca Rose, Kim Davey, Rebecca McMullin, Katie Glasspoole, Sophie Bassett, Hollie Shaw, Clarice Payne, Heidi Davies.

Thanks were expressed to adult helpers Mark and Gail McMullin, Aileen Ismail and Alison Campbell and to the Explorer Scouts for their loan of a minibus.
