TAVISTOCK was recently nominated by a woman on holiday in the town as having one of Britain's worst car parks.

Insurance company Aviva recently asked the public to nominate their worst car parking space.

The woman, who came to the town for a holiday this summer, nominated the Guildhall Car Park by Tavistock Police Station.

She described the car park as being 'about the size of a large cereal box', and said that on a Saturday afternoon in summer there was no room to manoeuvre and back out.

'It was a nightmare, people looked like they were going to have heart attacks with the stress of just trying to get back out,' she said.

Roger Howard, town clerk for the council, said: 'The car park is always full and popular, due to its location. We have had no complaints before, only from disabled drivers, due to the size of the spaces. We have only just spent money to remark the car park.'

The public nominated their nightmare spaces that make parallel parking preposterous and manoeuvring a car into a tiny gap maddening.

Tavistock missed out on a space in the top ten which were: Alton, Hampshire; Soho, London; Brighton; Nottingham; Blackpool; Chesterfield; Hertford; Hendon; Wisbech, Cambridgeshire; Harrogate.
