TAVISTOCK Short Mat Bowling Club began its recent programme of four matches with an away fixture at Buckland. The team returned home having won on two of the three rinks played and achieving a 59-50 victory. Skip Norman Paramor led his crew to a 21-12 victory, thanks to them winning three ends by four shots. Vic Stacey and his squad notched up a 21-16 win after they picked up ten shots over the last five ends of their match. Skip Bill Ashe and his squad went down 17-22 after winning only eight of the 24 ends played. Saltash were Tavistock's next visitors for a match which concluded as a 65-58 victory for the Tavistock team after they won three of the four rinks played. Skips' results were Dave Summers, 18-14, Vic Stacey, 19-14, Norman Paramor, 14-9, John Dunkeld, 14-21. The visit to Tavistock by a squad from Coombe Deans on January 20 ended in a comprehensive 87-56 victory for the Tavistock players who won three of the four rinks played. Skips' results were Norman Paramor, 20-11, Vic Stacey, 20-18, Jessie Swift, 21-21, and Dave Summers, 26-6. The return home fixture against Buckland saw the visitors bring four rinks to Tavistock for a match which ended in a narrow 73-70 victory for the Tavistock team. Mainly thanks to a good win by skip Vic Stacey and his squad, who notched up a 30-13 victory. Other skips results were, Norman Paramor lost 15-19, Brian Lamb lost 13-23 and Bill Ashe drew 15-15.
