PUPILS at two West Devon schools have been skipping to help a good cause — the British Heart Foundation.
Lamerton C of E Primary and Mary Tavy and Brentor Community School were among more than 100 schools in Devon who took part in the foundation's Jump Rope for Heart scheme, which provided physical exercise as well as being enjoyable.
Participating schools received a free box of skipping ropes and a CD of music to help keep the rhythm. Part of the money raised goes to the school and the rest to the foundation. Lamerton School raised £211, of which £160 was donated to the charity, and Mary Tavy and Brentor School raised £316, of which £240 has been donated to the BHF.
Bernie Steed, of the British Heart Foundation, said he was most grateful to the pupils and their supporters. 'Taking part in this skipping challenge encourages healthy habits and shows children that keeping fit can be fun. Experts agree that learning how to care for your heart from an early age is the best way to prevent future heart problems,' he said.
