Gunnislake v Buckland ANOTHER fine individual performance by Gunnislake?s skipper Andy Astley lit up an otherwise gloomy Hawkmoor on Saturday. With drizzly rain sweeping in at various times during the match the conditions were far from ideal for batting or bowling. Gunnislake, batting first, got away to a faltering start, presenting the prospect of a low total score. Ricard (11), Rooke (8) and Holloway (13) all got their innings underway before falling to the bowling of Osbourne (12-2-42-3). Astley was joined at the wicket by Danny Pethick (14) and these two produced the major partnership of the innings. Having punished any loose balls Astley was finally dismissed for 63, caught in the deep off the bowling of Mannell (8-0-38-3). His innings included six fours and two sixes. James Boundy (15) and Ansell (24 no) took the score to 170 to secure maximum batting points. Astley opened the bowling for Gunnislake and took the wicket of Pike with his second ball. Waterhouse (1) and Rogers (17) put up some resistance until the sixth over, when the former played no shot to an off-break from Hugo (8-3-11-3), which turned in to remove his stumps. Hugo had wickets in his next two overs; one bowled, one stumped. The action now focused on the bowling of Astley. With the ball well pitched up, rarely straying from a line on or just outside the off stump and delivered at considerable pace, his bowling proved too good for the Buckland batsmen. When Tom Rogers was finally dismissed the chance of a batting point went with him. Only Barrett (2) and Osborne (2) of the remaining batsmen troubled the scorers. Buckland?s innings closed on 24, apparently the lowest total ever recorded by them. Gunnislake (20 points) beat Buckland (3 points) by 146 runs.
