A CHALLENGING new exhibition entitled Skin and Bone by Cornish artist Kate Walters which explores the subject of human woundedness has gone on show at the Museum of Dartmoor Life. Kate uses reindeer skin and manipulated gannet feathers to make sculptures. As well as works of sculpture, the exhibition also contains a number of drawings. Kate draws with pencil, paint, charcoal and sunflower oil! Kates lives in Penzance but regularly visits Dartmoor to take inspiration from its wild open spaces. Kate trained in London, Brighton and Falmouth. Shows she has contributed to include the Jerwood Drawing Prize and Artwork in Mental Health ? both of which toured the UK ? Newlyn Art Gallery Critic?s Choice, Foundation for Women?s Art open exhibition and this autumn, at the Drawing Gallery in Piccadily, London. She has recently been awarded a grant from the Arts Council England and Creative Skills in Truro to attend the Venice Biennale. Last year, she was the recipient of an award from the Arts Council England South West. Kate teaches on the degree course at Cornwall College and she also runs workshops. Skin and Bone runs at the Museum of Dartmoor Life?s gallery until Monday, October 3. Open Monday-Saturday, 10.15am to 4.30pm. Normal museum charges apply.
