Tavistock U11s 26 Ivybridge/Barnstaple U11s 0 ON a freezing day and a soggy pitch, Tavistock Under 11s played a combined Ivybridge and Barnstaple team and convincingly won their third game of the season. Tavistock started well but were driven back by the determined opposition. Defending well within their own 22, Tavistock?s forwards won the first of many scrums, releasing the backs to surge forward deep into their opponents? half. Their hard work resulted in a penalty. Flyhalf Michael Slater took the penalty and passed to captain Ed Longden who drove over for a well-earned try. Monty Burdfield confidently converted giving Tavistock a 7-0 lead. At half-time Tavistock substituted Joe Thompson for fullback Burdfield, and Cody McGlade came on for Chris Brown. The Tavistock forwards then continued their first half dominance of the scrums, rucks and mauls, allowing Louis Ferguson to dive over for a try early in the second half. Longden converted. Further tries from hooker Alex McGoldrich and a jinking run from the halfway line by winger Richard Coker confirmed Tavistock?s success. The final score of 26-0 was a fair result on a day in which Tavistock demonstrated their much improved skills learnt from many hard weeks of training with coach Duncan Law.
