YET another exciting change at Okehampton College will see the construction of a new skills centre, which will deliver a range of vocational courses for students.
Courses will include a B-Tec in construction, as well as a diploma in construction and the built environment.
Students will also be able to learn such things as bricklaying and motor vehicle mechanics.
The development will have some interesting design features incorporating a line of up and over doors on the ground floor, which will provide access to a large area where bricklaying can be performed.
The building has been designed by The Oxenham Building Consultancy, which is based in South Tawton.
Acting principal for the college, Derrick Brett, said: 'This development will add to the range of learning experiences we can offer and continue to raise achievements and aspirations.
'A whole range of skills related to the construction industry will be taught in this new facility.'
At all stages of the development, pupils currently on the construction diploma courses will be able to shadow the Oxenham team managing the build, to gain an insight to the various roles involved from planning and building regulation issues, through to the various trades and project management.
The new skills centre is set to be completed by September 2010.
