OKEHAMPTON Hockey Club hosted an Under 19 mixed hockey tournament during OCRA's Sports Week. Teams from Tavistock, Bude and Exeter Hornets joined the hosts in a round-robin competition. Goalkeeper Jamie Pavely protected his goal in awesome style while captain Martin Jones commanded the defence, making many crucial tackles and clearances.  Amanda Sim, playing right defence, channelled her attackers skillfully away from the goal using her swift pace and determination. Stuart MacCormack at left back combined solid defending with stylish attacking play. The Okehampton midfield was dominated by Joff Stephens who worked tirelessly. Helping in midfield was Josh Speak until he was struck with cramp during the final game and had to retire. This was when Okehampton spectator Chris Searle came to the team's rescue, taking over Speak's role and creating crucial goalscoring chances.  Okehampton's left midfield was controlled by Sophie Whiteley, whose strong tackling allowed her to feed some good balls to left wing Sarah Jones.  Usually a defensive player, Sarah soon settled into her new attacking role, scoring a fine goal from a penalty corner in the last match.  Youngster Brieze Reed stepped in to play right half causing problems for the opposition with her determined tackling. Stuart Jarvis made good use of his speed and ball control on the right wing and was unlucky not to put his name on the score sheet. Central attack was dominated by the speed and skill of Tom Forrester and Grace Thorp, resulting in a goal and penalty flick for Forrester in the final game. Okehampton took a while to find their form. They lost their first match against local rivals Tavistock, and were unable to score against the eventual winners Exeter Hornets, but they played skillful and flowing hockey against Bude to win their final game.
