WEIR Quay Sailing Club held their annual Tamar Bridge race in bright conditions and a westerly wind force 3 to 4.

Sixteen boats took part including five from Roadford and Cargreen sailing clubs.

The duty officer set a course which rounded every navigation mark and buoy on the River Tamar from Weir Quay to the Brunel rail bridge and back, taxing the crews' navigational skills.

The wind direction made the greater part of the course a fast reach, with a few capsizes to keep the safety boats busy.

Fast handicap winners were Michael Kinger and Nicky Buckett from Roadford sailing club in the Wayfarer 'Haze', who completed the correct course in 1 hour 20 minutes.

Slow handicap winner was Thomas Brooks, with Ian Brooks as crew, in Mirror 'Marnen' in 1 hour 55 minutes.
