ONCE again the weather proved to be the nemesis of Whitchurch's cricketing week. Both midweek evening games were called off due to rain and only two out of the four bank holiday weekend games were played to conclusion.
Tamar League
Following the tea interval Whitchurch started their innings and only managed to score 6 runs before the heavens opened and produced another abandoned game.
This week the Tamar side will be at home against Lewdown.
Devon League
Whitchurch had to travel to Feniton in order successfully to avoid the rain. Whitchurch batted first and Darren Chappell started to find his form with an excellent 48, however he rapidly ran out of partners as Whitchurch closed on 101.
The Feniton bowlers, Whitton (4-14) and Bright (3-32) caused the bulk of the damage.
Feniton made a purposeful start to their innings with the threat of rain looking ever closer. Opener, Cann (36) provided their top score with Tucker (22) falling to a superb one-handed catch on the boundary by Steve Hodge.
Feniton rapidly went on to amass the requisite runs for the loss of three wickets, all of which went to Neil Tamblin who returned figures of 3-39.
This Saturday the Devon League will be away to Yealmpton.
Sunday friendly
ON Sunday Whitchurch hosted BRNC Dartmouth. Surprisingly the game did start, however, the rain swept in to finish the game before the conclusion of the first innings by the Naval side.
Sunday's friendly game will be home to Broadclyst.
Monday friendly
WITH the weather showing slightly more promise Whitchurch started their annual fixture against the Untouchables.
The Untouchables batted first and despite spirited resistance from Martin Credicott (35) concluded their innings on 119.
In response, Whitchurch lost their first four batsmen rather cheaply and it was left to Nigel Barriball to produce a sparkling 68 in order to steer the game towards a draw with the home team falling just short on 109 runs.
For the Untouchables Carter (3-33) and Cotterell (2-21) caused the main damage with the ball.
Thanks go to F M Lawrence for their sponsorship of the game.
