ALMOST half the electors in Brentor turned out to vote in an election to enable the parish council there to function.

The round of local government elections in?May saw only one nomination in the parish, that of Antonia Frankland, who was duly elected unopposed.

The council has seven seats, but with a solitary member, it could not legally conduct business so the call went out for residents to fill the remaining six. Nine candidates put their names forward.

The election last Thursday resulted in a turnout of 46.6%.

The six elected were: Tim Beavon, 106 votes; Cyril Friend, 104; Liz Hill, 79; John Burrows, 78; John Drury, 75; Sheila Burrows, 74.

Not elected: Jean Crocker. 58; Alex Midlen, 49; Andrew Stone, 46.
