GET yourself up to Brentor Church and sing your heart out at a sponsored hymn request on Saturday (September 14).

Jennifer Venning, organist at St Michael de Rupe, is hosting the event as part of the national Ride and Stride event, raising money for Devon Historic Churches Trust.

The national event is a sponsored bike ride or walk between churches, to raise money to help preserve some of Britain's churches, chapels and meeting houses which are at risk of falling into disrepair.

Mrs Venning has organised her hymn request event because she said she was 'too old to ride a bike or walk any long distances' but wanted to do something to help raise money.

The event will run from 11.30am and there will be cream teas and refreshments available as well as a tombola.

Half the money raised will go to Devon Historic Churches Trust and the other half will go towards funds for St Michael de Rupe.
