CROWDS turned out to see a Jordan's Formula 1 racing car at Tavistock's Safeway store last Friday.
As well as marvelling at the multi-million pound feat of cutting-edge technology, visitors could try their hand at the wheel of the car, driven by Heinz Harald Frentzen, raising more than £300 for the Devon Air Ambulance and research into Alzheimers.
But there was one snag. Simon Allen, of Tavistock Tyres, who organised the visit, said: 'They told us it was 1.4m wide and we measured the doors at 1.6m. But when it arrived it turned out to be 1.8m! We had to put it up on it's side to get it in through the doors. The guy from Jordan was terrific,' he said.
The car was not that heavy since the construction is Kevlar and carbon, and the engine and gear box had been removed for the exhibition, but it was still valued at more than £2-million.
