ON WEDNESDAY August 6 it will be 58 years since a nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Tavistock Peace Action Group will mark this with a silent vigil at the town?s war memorial from 7pm to 7.30pm.
We invite all who are concerned about the nuclear threat and the continuing devastation of war to join the vigil. In our view the massive proliferation of nuclear ?weapons? since 1945 has made the world increasingly dangerous.
The UK insists on maintaining its own nuclear bomb programme despite signing the Non-Proliferation Treaty. A further extreme hazard is now presented by the use of depleted uranium warheads.
TPAG believes that more efforts must be made to resolve international conflicts by peaceful means. The human, economic and political cost of war are only too obvious across the world at present.
We hope that those who agree will join us on August 6 at the war memorial. All will be welcome afterwards at the Friends? Meeting House, Bedford Car Park, Tavistock, where we will discuss future activities.
