OKEHAMPTON?S Chamber of Trade says it is pleased a number of businesses within the town have responded to its campaign to boost membership numbers. At last week?s meeting of the chamber, chairman Richard Appleby reported that 14 new members had joined the chamber since he wrote to businesses in September encouraging them to take advantage of a new membership package. Mr Appleby said: ?It has been a good campaign, but still we would like more people to join. I feel everybody in business in the town ought to be a member of the chamber.? Mr Appleby said preparations were now underway for the town?s Christmas lights and the Edwardian Evening, which promised to be ?bigger and better than ever? this year. Both activities are organised by the chamber of trade: Edwardian Evening takes place on Thursday, December 8. The chamber is also looking for volunteers for a working party to help put up the Christmas lights throughout the centre of town on the morning of Sunday, November 27. The Museum of Dartmoor Life hosted last Thursday?s monthly meeting of the chamber. Mr Appleby said this was part of a fresh initiative to hold meetings at new venues around the town to try to encourage different people to come along.
