DEVON qualified for the England Team Championships to be held in Formby later in the year, as a result of their performance last week at Burnham and Berrow.
Tavistock Golf Club?s contribution was significant, as three of its members, James Ruth, Alan Gawman and Damien Gee, played a major part. It was James? last engagement before jetting off to Japan to represent his country. Alan won the individual medal.
The club had resounding wins against Yelverton and Ashford Manor, the former in the Plymouth Sound Golf Trophy. A.Coe and A Finnegan (5 and 4), M Wakley and K Kendall (1 up), S Washer and M Congdon (2 and 1) and J Tucker and S Kiely (7 and 6) were the successful pairings in the 4-1 result.
Against Ashford, A James and A Winfield, H James and P Hunter, M Harris and J Greening and D Williams and D Anthony all won while M Coles and B Bounsall drew their match in the 4- 1 win.
The Committee were no match for the Past Captains, and went down 3 -2.
