BEAUTIFUL weather welcomed many visitors to the annual Brentor Village Produce Show held last week.

As well as a higher number of fruit, vegetable and cut flower entries this year, the cookery and handicraft sections were also well represented.

Results for the group cup winners: Best in Show (adult), Alan Ray-Jones; Best in Show (child), James Adams; Photography, Alan Ray-Jones; Fruit and Vegetables, Eric Rhodes; Eggs, Alison Boulter; Cookery, Colin Dawes; Handicraft, Anne Clarke; Floral Art/Cut Flowers, Anne Clarke; Most Points (Resident), Vanessa Dawson; Most Points (Non-Resident), Peter Kersey; Most Points (Child), James Adams.

The village hall, in which the exhibits were displayed, was decorated with hand sewn bunting giving a country feel to the event. Outside and in the marquee afternoon tea was enjoyed by many who were entertained by local band 'Gipsy Train'.

A Brentor 2014 calendar was on sale during the event, which features beautiful photographs of the surrounding area that were recently chosen by popular vote. The technical expertise to produce the calendar was supplied by local resident John Wheeler.

To continue the afternoon's entertainment a variety of traditional side shows attracted adults and children alike, including a beautifully painted photoboard featuring a Victorian child holding a lamb and painted by talented local resident Jo Larsen-Burnett. The inspiration for the picture was a photograph supplied by local farmer and butcher Frank Downing of his grandmother Lena.
