A NEW venue has been chosen for Tavistock?s annual flower show ? and organisers are hoping next year?s event will be the most successful ever.
The show, run by Tavistock and District Gardening Club, has traditionally been held in the town?s pannier market.
But confusion over booking and charges led to the cancellation of this year?s show.
Now the club has decided to hold its 155th show in the Parish Church Centre.
Chairman Geoffrey Willetts said: ?We?ve had a good look around it and it will make a nice venue. It?s a nice hall, it has all the facilities we want for refreshments, there?s a lovely lawn outside and they?ve also got a marquee, which will be really nice ? we can have a really good show with a semi-rural setting.?
Mr Willetts said the gardening club have booked the venue for August 8 and 9 ? the other advantage of using the Parish Church Centre was that the show could be held at the weekend, instead of the traditional Monday and Tuesday.
?Obviously, we can?t have such a large show, but we are excited about it and are running it ourselves this year, we?re not going to have a separate show committee,? said Mr Willetts.
?The people at the centre have been very welcoming, it?s near the car park for visitors, it?s close to the centre of the town ? I think it will be very good.?
The gardening club is also planning to hold a plant sale and coffee morning in the centre during May, which will help raise funds for next year?s show.
