FLOWER show week at Spreyton saw some dreadful rain and wind which greatly affected the flowers exhibited, but failed to dampen the spirits of those who exhibited.

Chairman Tony Talbot welcomed president Cleave Collins, who opened the show. Cleave had been a great support to wife, Eve, during the years she served as secretary and main organiser.

He spoke fondly of two friends and supporters of the show who had died during the past year, Jean Underhill and Stuart Powlesland.

Show secretary was Sharon Hawking, assisted by Emma Ames and Eve Collins. Chairman was Douglas Endacott and the busy treasurer was Angela Hawkins. Door stewards were Mr and Mrs D Endacott; raffles, Mrs H Elston; produce stall, Mrs A Barber; tombola, Miss T Collins; bottle stall, Mrs C Callard; lucky number and win the jar of sweets, D Callard. The teas were run by Mrs E Williams and her team of helpers.

Many exhibits were left behind afterwards and auctioned by D Endacott, assisted by Mrs A Hawkins. The hall was eventually cleared and transformed for the evening whist drive, organised by Eve and Cleave Collins. MC was Ken Vile. Other helpers included Sylvia Vile, Doreen Toms, Angela Hawkins and the band of helpers who cleared away tables afterwards.

Profits from the day will be shared between the village hall and the Royal National Institute fort the Blind.
