AS a frequent user of the Bedford Car Park, I am getting just a little tired of the hiatus caused — on practically a daily basis — by inconsiderate parking in the road towards the rear of the library.
Last Friday was a classic example, with a car abandoned – rather than parked — in the narrowest part of the road and nearly two feet away from the kerb.
As a result, a coach driver, trying to get into the car park, had to fold in his nearside mirror and drive up on to the pavement so as to squeeze past.
This manoeuvre led to traffic building up behind with subsequent queuing on to Plymouth Road on one side and several cars waiting to exit the car park on the other.
Quite why it is that our lethargic council cannot seem to bring itself to make the road from the rear entrance to the library to the entrance/exit of the car park a No Parking and Tow Away Zone defies belief.
Let's just hope that should fire appliances be called to the leisure pool they are able to negotiate the hazards caused by ill considered parking.
