THE Girl Guide theme to this year's village show at Milton Abbot was apt as the show's standards were very high and much improved upon previous years according to one of the judges.

This was partly attributed to the 'show know-how' class run earlier this year and arranged by show organizer Sonia Watson.

Paul Boucher scooped seven cups including cups for the highest points in the fruit, flowers and vegetable classes. Paul also earned the cup for the highest place gentleman in the show.

Lorna Strop Neilson won cups for the lady gaining the highest points in the show and the highest points in the handicraft section.

The children's handicraft classes had strong entries and Alastair Stone took the cup for the highest points in the cookery and handicraft section.

Thea Harland took three cups including cups for the best exhibit in the childrens section, the highest points in the flower classes and the highest points overall for the childrens classes.

David Nilson won both photography cups and Julia Easton took the prize for the best exhibit in the art classes whilst Penny Haigh and Denise Head shared the trophy for the highest points in the art classes.

Jean Tarnbly took the cup for the best exhibit in the handicraft classes. Liz Padmore had a prize for the best brownies in the set recipe class while Hilary Tucker took the award for the highest points in the cookery classes.

In the floral art section Sonia Watson took the highest points award and Doreen Atkinson won the Iris Snell Plate for the best exhibit in the floral art classes.

Visiting girl guides provided a fantastic prize for the winner of their Kims game which was won by Daniel Martin.

The teas and cakes were widely supported by eager show goers and a generous raffle with the top prize of two flights to Guernsey donated by Air South West helped to raise funds towards next year's show.
