MY sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the last day of the Royal Cornwall Show this year, but sadly it is likely to be for the last time.
As pensioners, we find that the non-concessionary entrance fee of £16.50 is becoming prohibitive when added to our travelling cost. We use our local community bus, which this year was only half full, and though we only paid £5 per seat, the total cost is a lot to pay when you are on a state pension and not much more.
We noticed that the Devon County Show offers a pensioner discount on their entrance fee, and so will recommend to our community bus trip arranger that perhaps we should go there in 2014 instead. We live in the Tamar Valley so the journey will be much the same distance and cost.
It will be a shame not to go to the Royal Cornwall Show, as we do live in Cornwall, but in this current recession, every penny counts.

PS: I have since been advised that the Devon County Show was even more expensive than the Royal Cornwall Show, even with the discount, so it looks like we will not be going to either next year.
