FURTHER to the letters printed in the June 11 edition, I wholeheartedly agree with the letters stating how short sighted West Devon Borough Council's decision to refuse Sainsbury's application will prove to be.

Currently I drive many miles across Roborough Down to visit supermarkets. I need the convenience of being able to transport a large amount of groceries as easily as possible — as do many other families!

This in no way interferes with the shopping I do in the town centre or how frequently I use these shops. Another supermarket for Tavistock will not alter this, just cut down my trips into Plymouth. People I meet in the Plymouth supermarkets from Tavistock's surrounding villages are totally in agreement — they would look around the town, have some lunch and then do the food shopping.

It is extremely difficult for individuals to register their concerns without money to employ planning consultations to argue their case. The borough council is an elected body which should consider what is in the interest of all the residents of Tavistock — not just the few who have a vested interest.

Ah well! That is democracy — I will continue to cross the moors to shop in Plymouth where there is a choice and thus benefit Plymouth City Council's coffers. At least I have that choice.

My husband, in his work travels, has noticed that Okehampton has a Waitrose and Somerfield supermarket next to each other — interesting!
