SUCCESSES in this year?s Open 10-metre Rifle Championships organised by Okehampton Smallbore Club were fairly evenly shared between Devon shooters and those from further afield. Each entrant had to shoot two full courses of fire of 60 shots each, with a possible score of 600 for each competition and a total for the aggregate of 1200. Top spots in Class A went to Chris Tucker from Springhead, who won both competitions and the aggregate in the class with scores of 573 and 567 for a total of 1140. He beat Geof McHugh from Blackburn by four points in competition 1, but was held to a draw by McHugh in Competition 2, so taking the aggregate for the class by four points. In Class B, Tiverton?s Rick Covey won Competition 1 by three points from Neil Abernethy of Okehampton, had a one-point victory over Sam Lawler from Highfield in Competition 2 and took the Aggregate by four points from Abernethy. Competition 1 in Class C went to a junior, Tristan Hanson from Ferndown in Dorset, with 517, eight points clear of David Husband from St Austell. Competition 2 went to Highfield?s Keith Adams by five points from Hanson, but Hanson had scored well enough over the two events to take the Aggregate by 11 points from Alan Henham. Alex Covey, from Tiverton Rifle Club, shooting in Class B, won the juniors with 522 and the team event went to Highfield A by 34 points from St Austell.
