A SHIELD in memory of actor Edward Woodward, who was president of Callington Town Band before his death last year, was presented for the first time to the most improved player at the annual award ceremony.
Sixteen-year-old main band cornet player Malcolm Szuplewski won the award for his talent at playing the large E-flat bass which he transferred to just over a year ago.
All the awards were presented by Mr Woodward's wife, Michele Dotrice, who has taken his place as president of the band, which she said was an honour.
Other awards went to tenor horn player Anne Luxton, who had done most for the band in the year, training band member Joanna Graves, 11, who had made the most progress and Evie Lightbody, 15, who won the attendance cup.
The event took place in Callington Methodist Church where the band played their 'Movie Magic' music to an appreciative audience.
