A TAVISTOCK headteacher has said he may have to spend vital school funds on CCTV cameras after the third vandalism attack in a month. St Peter's School at Greenlands is already having to fork out more than £1,000 to repair 12 windows which have been broken by stones and blocks being thrown at them. The latest vandalism spree was between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning when the door to the wooden hut which houses the swimming pool changing rooms was forced open and six wired reinforced windows were smashed. Headteacher John George said there was nothing stored inside — it was simply an act of 'sheer vandalism.' 'If it continued,' he said, the only option would be to install CCTV: 'I find it immensely frustrating to arrive in the morning to find another set of windows broken and the most galling thing is the cost. This is money that is coming out of our school budget which could be put to much better use.' CCTV, added Mr George, would cost in the region of £2,000 to install. He said: 'It is something we have to start looking at with vandalism of a recurring nature like this. We have much greater priorities in school for the children's benefit but we may have to go this way — it is such a terrible waste.' If anyone has information about vandalism at the school they should contact PC Simon Raeburn at Tavistock Police Station on 08452 777444. Anyone worried about giving their identity should contact the police on the Crimestoppers number, 0800 555111. The crime reference number for last weekend's incident is JT/07/545. l DAMAGE is being caused to the roof of Tavistock College, say police, by people skateboarding on it particularly at weekends. Officers are urging youngsters not to climb onto the roof and use it for recreation as it is breaking the tiles. 'This has been ongoing for a number of weeks and a lot of damage has been caused,' he said. PCSO Kevin Williams would like hear from anyone who has information about these incidents. Contact him at Tavistock Police Station on 08452 777444.
