WHITCHURCH and Sampford Spiney churches are to benefit from £1,300 raised at the recent sheep dog trials held at Birchy Farm, Whitchurch.

The sun shone as spectators enjoyed watching the dog handlers working as one with their trusty friends, moving sheep through the various courses.

Trial goers visited the charity stalls, played games supplied by the Roborough Young Farmers' Club and ate pasties and other light refreshments.

Tony Dukes was the judge for the day and winners were 'Sally', owned by I Bickle (Novice Maltese Cross), 'Roy' owned by K J Watson (Open Maltese Cross), and 'Jock' owned by T Coles (Open Driving).

The family dog show was held in the afternoon.

Rosettes were presented to Philippa Watson for the Best Rescue Case, Dennis Skinner for the Best Puppy, Judith McMurdo for the Best Veteran and Moira Anderson for the Best in Show.

Unfortunately some of the cups were not returned from last year's dog show and anyone who may have won a cup in 2002 is being asked to call the chairman on 01822 613361.

The committee is especially keen to hear from the owners of dogs named 'Poppy' and 'Blue'.

A big thank you has been expressed to all the committee members and friends who gave a lot of time and effort to make the event a success and to Mr and Mrs Tom Cox, owners of Birchy Farm.
