The Active Villages initiative in the area is managed by Torridge District Council. It seeks to support rural communities to develop long-term sports opportunities which enable people of all ages, from primary school to retired age groups, to experience the fun of sport and build a lifelong love of being active and healthy.
Residents of Chagford, Hatherleigh and North Tawton have already benefited from the countywide Devon Active Villages scheme thus far.
Some of the activities available to the villages include athletics, table tennis, tai chi, tennis, football and zumba fitness classes.
