Pearsall Trophy

AN inspired spell from Belstone opening bowler Jonathan Parsons tore Sticklepath apart in the fourth annual Pearsall Trophy match at Rew Meadow last Sunday.

The carnage began when the fifth ball of his first over rose sharply off a length, took the glove of Richard Boarder's bat and was well caught by Thomas Boother, diving forward at first slip. Steve Grainger took three runs off Parsons' next over but his following three were successively single, double and triple wicket maidens to leave him with figures of 5-4-3-7. Not surprisingly this was his best return for the club and the second best analysis in the 17 years since the club re-formed.

Harry Bushin (5-1-24-2) supported well at the other end only suffering when Nigel Lethern took 14 off his fourth over. A suicidal run out, the eighth duck of the innings, brought things to a close after just 39 minutes cricket.

Needing only 32 to win Trevor Oats (12) and Luke Wonnacott (12 not out in 40 minutes) played carefully but Belstone still managed to lose four wickets before recording their third win in the series, with bowling honours going to Callum Mallett's well flighted spell of three for 15 from seven overs. Belstone beat Sticklepath by six wickets.
