THE penultimate round of the North Devon mini league was held at Ilfracombe where the pool is 33.3 metres in length so any comparisons on previous performances are hard to match.
Okehampton Otters swimmers achieved seven first places and nine seconds.
Jo Cade swam to two victories. Her success at the Devon championships must have given her the confidence as she easily won her age group swim by a good margin in the backstroke and out touching her opponents in the 100m free.
Boys' captain Gavin Best came away with victory in the 100m fly. He has gradually improved over the last few months so the training he has put in has worked well.
Alex Wooldridge swam a place better than in the last outing to come first in the 11years 66.6m breast.
Cameron Huxtable, Daniel Worrall, Tom Bradley, Alex Dennis and John Radnor continued their great run of victories of late in the freestyle and medley relays.
The 11 years boys' team of Alex Wooldridge, Matthew Westlake, Merrick Kirby and Michael Aylen were triumphant in the 4x1 medley relay.
Runner-up spots were swum by Alex Wooldridge, fly; Matthew Webber, free; Matthew Wise, free; Matthew Westlake, free; Abby Hill, free; Daniel Worrall, free; Jo Cade, back; girls' open medley relay and a team consisting of Imogen MacCullock (13), Kate Dennis (13), Connie Shackleton (13) and Jo Cade in the 14/15 &u free relay.
Thanks go to the more senior members, Kevin Jones, Nick Bowles and Paul Hammett who kept their heads above water to swim the open events of free, im and back.
Coach Nigel West said the younger girls swam several events to keep the points total ticking over. 'This is an unusual factor for us as we have an abundance of male swimmers where other clubs seem to struggle.
'What we need now is to unite as a team and go to Barnstaple in a week's time and show the other teams we can compete when fully equipped to do so.'
On the social side, the club are hosting a fund-raising night at the Conservative Club on Saturday April 27. It will start at 7.30pm with a wax'n' shave by three of the coaches from the club.
