A SUMMER programme packed full of exciting activities for teenagers in and around Bere Alston will begin next month.
This is the second summer event held for the Bere Alston youth aged between 13 and 19-years-old.
The activities, from August 11 to 29, have been organised by Bere Alston youth worker Jen Potts in order to tackle youth issues including rural isolation, boredom and anti-social behaviour.
She said: 'The young people in Bere Alston have always had a bad reputation.
'I have been very encouraged over the past 12 months to see young people taking charge and responsibility for the decisions that they are making.
'They are deciding to make positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes — one young person alone has secured £12,000 for young people's programmes in Bere Alston.
'We have also secured additional funding for break dancing and drama workshops from September to October.'
The holiday activities will see youngsters having the choice to partake in either quad biking, a trip to Polzeath beach, raft building, a trip to Quay West, and kayaking — with more activities yet to be confirmed.
Each activity will cost £5 per person with concessions available on discussion.
Jen said that the programme has been supported financially by West Devon Youth Bank, Devon and Cornwall Police, Bere Alston Parish Council, the Holy Trinity Church in Bere Alston, and Devon Youth Service.
Every Wednesday, activity sessions are held for school years 7 to 13 and a drop in session every Thursday night for years 9 to 13.
