GERMANSWEEK, one of the smallest parishes in West Devon, is to host two services for prayer and healing.

The Healing Ministry is a rapidly growing aspect of church life but marks a new departure for the parish and for the team ministry of which it is part.

The first of the services is to be held on Wednesday, February 25 (Ash Wednesday) at 2.30pm and will be led by the Rev Arthur Parsons, healing adviser to the Exeter Diocese. It will be a gentle, low-key service, with the opportunity to light a candle, and to ask for prayer for yourself or for another.

Part of the service will also be given over to offering requests for prayer from those not able to attend, and these can be given to Alan Smithers on 01837 871314. The service is open to all denominations.

The Rev Stephen Cook, Team Rector of Okehampton and Northmoor, said the small church had wonderful views across the moors and Roadford Lake. 'You only have to enter the churchyard to know that this is a special place, with its own unique ambience,' he said.

Germansweek Church is named after St Germanus of Auxerre, a 5th century saint who invoked many miracles in his time. He was responsible for the training of St Patrick, who travelled with him in Britain and France for 15 years.

Services are held in the beautiful little church every other Sunday at 11am. More details are available from Mr Smithers on the above number.
