TAVISTOCK'S Ordulph Arms was again full for the spring Taste and See women's dinner  where the speaker was disability adviser Debbie Starling.

Debbie, a singer/song writer, constructed her presentation through words and song. She spoke to the title 'Priorities and Precious Commodies: disability from a different angle.

Debbie is the parent of two adult children with physical and mental disabilites and is employed as a support worker for adults with different learning abilities. She is also the disability awareness adviser for the diocese of Exeter

She spoke about how her experiences have taught her to view disability in a completely different light. She considers it a huge privilege to have had her children and she continually learns so much from people who do not fit the conventional view of 'normality'.  She said that throughout her life her faith in God had upheld her.

Ruth Newman, chairman of Taste and See, thanked Debbie for an enjoyable evening and one that was poignantly challenging.

Taste and See is organised by a committee representing the churches in the Tavistock area and is open to all women of any age. For more information contact Ruth Newman on 01822 616859.
