Sgt Bev Havis said that she and her officers at Tavistock police station were ‘working tirelessly’ to get to the bottom of the tragedy.
’With the support of Hannah’s family, we are determined to work together to stop another loss of a young life. The safeguarding and wellbeing of young people in our community is our priority. We therefore ask that young people have the confidence to talk to their parents, family members, carers, friends, teachers, police officers or other professionals to share any information they may have on the risk-taking behaviour their friends may be exposed to.
‘Discussing and sharing concerns can lead to support being offered and may help prevent the loss of another young life. The police service require the help and support of the community in tackling the risks that young people face.
‘We can make a difference but we need your help.’
Police were called at about 4.15pm on Saturday, June 23 to a field off Crowndale Road near the disused viaduct on the outskirts of Tavistock where 15-year-old Hannah had collapsed.
She was taken to Derriford Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A 14-year-old boy, also from the Tavistock area, was also taken to Derriford Hospital and was later released in a stable condition.
Police believe both teenagers suffered from adverse reactions from taking a substance believed to be MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, which was seized at the scene. The substance is currently being analysed by the police.
Police revealed on Friday that they had arrested a man and two teenage boys on suspicion of drugs offences in relation to Hannah’s death. They have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Adrian Hawkins said: ‘Our investigation continues and detectives from around the force have made a number of arrests.
‘A 20-year-old man from Tavistock was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply a controlled substance of Class A, a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug of Class A and a 15-year-old boy from Tavistock was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug of Class A and possession of a controlled drug of Class B and for perverting the course of justice.
