Devon Tesco FA U13 cup Tamarside 3 Tavistock Town 5 Tavistock Town will compete in the cup final after a thrilling semi final victory over Tamarside. The visitors travelled to Tamarside full of confidence after a 12 match unbeaten run. Both teams started nervously but eventually the game settled and most of the play was restricted to the middle as both defences held firm. Chances were few and far between but it was Tavistock who struck first when a move down the right gave Quick the opportunity to turn well in the box and fire home under pressure. Just before half time Tamarside equalised when a long ball caused confusion in the box and a stray hand gave the home side a penalty which was scored. In the second half Tamarside took the lead when a cross from the right was finished well at the far post. Undeterred Tavistock continued to press and as players tired chances started to appear at both ends. Tavistock found the equaliser through Moorhead when his powerful running gave him a chance which he finished well. The game continued to swing from end to end and when Tamarside took the lead to make it 3-2 with 12 minutes to go it seemed like Tavistock's cup ambitions were at an end. Tavistock refused to give in and pushed players forward in search of another equaliser. The positive play was rewarded when Hicks finished well from the right side of the box. With extra time looming it was Tavistock who were finishing the game strongly and they took the lead in the final minutes of the game when another strong run and finish from Moorhead gave Tavistock the lead. With two minutes to go Tavistock sealed the victory when Alford calmly beat the keeper. DJM U13s Hermes Saltash United 2 Tavistock Town 9 TAVISTOCK started brightly and had a number of chances to take the lead before Eaton worked some space for himself in the box and beat the keeper. Tavistock continued to press but were finding chances difficult to take with a combination of sloppy shots and good goalkeeping. Tavistock pressure eventually started to tell on the increasingly stretched Saltash defence and Quick and Northmore added further goals. To their credit Saltash remained lively in attack and they pulled a goal back before Hicks and Quick, with his second, extended the lead. Saltash scored again before half time. The second half was dominated by Tavistock and after a number of chances were spurned Alford added the sixth. Quick completed his hat-trick to make it seven and Northmore and Moorhead completed the scoring.
