A WOMAN who is researching her family tree in West Devon is appealing for help from residents. Caroline Elsworth from Kent is searching for information and photographs regarding Tavistock Maternity Home in Whitchurch where she was born in May 1972 ? it is now Tregarland ? and Langstone Children?s Home, now Langstone Manor, in Brentor, where her mother was born in 1945. Caroline visited Langstone Manor recently but found that nobody knew the history of the building. She said: ?I wanted someone to shed some light on the home to see what it used to be like. It would be nice to see what it was like back then. ?It used to be a children?s home in the second world war but I am intrigued to find out more about the home and the people who used to work there.? In 1945, Caroline?s grandmother, who lived in Torpoint, was sent to St Michael?s Hospital in Liskeard to give birth. Her baby, Caroline?s, mother, Kay, was sent to Langstone Children?s Home and was adopted two and a half years later by a Tavistock family. Caroline?s grandmother also had a son, Stuart, two years earlier, who was at some point taken to Langstone Manor. Both children did not know each other existed until September 2006 when, thanks to Caroline?s research, they met for the first time in 62 years. Anyone able to help Caroline, can contact her on 01322 316005 or 57 Bascombe Grove, Braeburn Park, Crayford, Kent, DA1 3RG.
