MORE information on two rare coins from Burrator's past is being sought to shed some light on their historic meaning. Lindy Scott, who lives on the outskirts of Woolwell, came across the coins in her late father's belongings. Curious as to their history, Lindy asked a man in the Barbican, who deals with rare coins. He said they were medallions made to commemorate the opening of Burrator Reservoir. Lindy said: 'How my dad got two of these coins I don't know as it was before his time. 'One side of the coin is a picture of Burrator Reservoir, right across the dam, with the moors in the background and on the other side it has the words "commencing August 9, 1898", "1,600 acres", and "651 million gallons". 'I want to find out a bit more as I don't know what to do with them — it is a shame to leave them festering away in a cupboard. I mean, they are not worth much, about a fiver each, but it would be nice to know more.'
