DISCOVER the secret gardens of Moretonhampstead on June 23/24 in an event which is now in its 15th year. A number of gardens in and around the village will be open to the public during the weekend from 11am to 5.30pm, some for the first time. A free bus service will take visitors to the more outlying gardens and parking for private cars will be available both in the town and at some of the gardens. Moretonhampstead?s Secret Gardens event will include a major plant sale at Moordown, lunches and/or cream teas at some of the locations and a scarecrow competition which was run for the first time last year and proved very popular. Proceeds from the weekend will help pay for structural maintenance and repairs at St Andrew?s Church. This event attacts around 500 people each year and tickets, map and descriptions of the gardens are available from Moretonhampstead Information Centre on 01647 440043.
