GARDENERS across the county will descend on Moretonhampstead on June 11 and 12, at the 'Secret Gardens' event.

It will see a number of gardens and allotments in and around the Moretonhampstead and North Bovey area opened to the public — some gardens open for the first time. The gardens promise to be full of hidden wonders and surprises — one garden will include a display of mosaic garden artefacts!

The event is organised on behalf of the Friends of St Andrew's to raise essential funds for the upkeep of the parish church. This year the proceeds will be shared with the Friends of St John's in North Bovey. Organisers are hoping to top the £4,000 record for the event set in 2006.

The gardens will open from 11am to 5pm on both days. A free bus service will be able to take visitors from Moretonhampstead to the gardens lying further away from the centre of the village. There will be parking for private cars. Lunches, cream teas and snacks will be available at some gardens.

Entry costs £5 per person, covering all the gardens throughout the two days. Children under 14 attend for free.
