Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier Division Tavistock 2nds 1 Morwenstow 5 WITH a less than auspicious start to the season, only three points from four games and seventeen goals conceeded, Tavistock needed something concrete from this game. Alas, it was not to be. Morwenstow put the Tavistock defence under sustained pressure and the inevitable goal came within three minutes, followed four minutes later by a second. With fifteen minutes to go till the end of the half Tavistock began to string together a number of clever passes and telling runs. Unfortunately the final ball was never there and Tavistock could produce nothing to worry Morwenstow keeper. Two minutes from half time the visitors secured their third goal. The second half saw little change in the flow of play until Ben Stephens chanced a delicious long shot which flew past the keeper giving Tavistock a possible lifeline. Morwenstow, not having lost a game so far this season, replied minutes later when a low cross from the left caught the Tavy defence flat-footed and gave the visitors a four-one lead. Tavistock continued to chase the game but they could do nothing to produce a serious threat in the Morwenstow area. With sixteen minutes to go Morwenstow added insult to injury when a forty yard shot caught the Tavistock keeper napping, giving them a resounding 5-1 victory.
