Okehampton Seconds 6 Axmouth Utd 0 OKEHAMPTON continued their good start to the season with this win. Manager Steve Harris kept faith with the same side from last week?s win over Newton, and with Dan Gibbs and Jon Jo Fellows coming back from first team duty it meant a luxury of five subs on the bench. Okehampton started at a high tempo, with Ricky Drew linking well with forwards, Darren Prouse and Dan Leahy. They created chances and got their reward in the eighth minute when Drew played a good ball to Danny Maddax who in turn slipped a great ball to Leahy to run on to and open the account. The early pressure continued with Stu Entwistle forcing a great save from the keeper and a Jamie Atherton effort somehow being cleared off the line. Stu Entwistle scored the second for Okehampton with good build up play involving five players. In the 40th minute the two forwards linked well and a Leahy effort came back off the post and was cleared for a corner. From the resulting corner Ricky Drew?s cross found Atherton to head home and Okehampton went into half-time 3-0 up. Concentration was the talk in the dressing room at half time and to make sure they went on to win well. Further goals were by Jon Jo Fellows, who replaced the injured Martin Taylor in the 15th minute, Darren Prouse and sub Tom Watts. Although the six goals scored meant a comfortable margin, a more important third clean sheet on the trot was due to the well-measured defence of Mark Hampson, Aron Ditchburn, Elliot Collins and goalkeeper Shaun Sandercock. This week away to Countesswear Dynamoes. Meet at school gates at 1.45pm. Okehamnpton Argyle Thirds 0 Beacon Knights 1 AFTER two excellent away performances Okehampton had a chance to enhance their position near the top of the table with this encounter. In a close first half both teams were full of running. Monnox and Coakley were causing all sorts of problems to Knights? defence with their lightning pace, but with the final ball not always good enough their efforts were in vain. At the other end Prouse, Woodhouse and Woods had to be switched on at all times, as Knights looked capable of capitalising on any defensive error. The second half saw Knights come out of the blocks quicker than their hosts. Argyle had to rely on last gasp defending, and fine saves by Clift to keep the visitors at bay. Changes were made to personnel by manager Kevin Hall and this seemed to steady the boat. Okehampton pushed on and found themselves having a lot of possession. Richard Eddy, Holland and Wooldridge all tried their hardest but in the end it was not going to be Argyle?s day. Knights? winner came after a lengthy interval, due to an injury to Monnox which saw him later taken to hospital in an ambulance. Down to ten men and still not fully focused, Argyle had a lapse in concentration enabling Knights to score the all important decider. This week Argyle entertain Feniton at Simmons Park, 3pm kick-off.
