Torpoint Athletic 2
THE Lambs challenge for honours this season suffered a real body blow last Saturday when they lost at home, to the in form Torpoint.
The game was evenly contested but once again it was the poor finishing that let the home side down.
The game started at great pace with both teams playing fine open play. As the game progressed the Lambs enjoyed the majority of possession but with poor finishing and some fine goal keeping never really looked like breaking the dead lock.
Torpoint continually harassed the home team always putting pressure on the player in possession and were very dangerous on the break.
It was a counter attack by Torpoint that opened the scoring 10 minutes before the interval when Chris Yeatman won a tackle with Lee Bevan in the middle of the park, for the ball to break to Liam Thornton, he played a neat inter change with Josh Grant before sliding the ball past the advancing Andy Meeds.
Three minute later the Lambs were back on level terms when Glyn Hobbs chipped the ball over the top of the Torpoint defence for Adam Carter to cut in from the left and calmly place a shot past Jack Dixon.
The Lambs then had efforts from Carter, Hobbs, Pethick and Krac, all well saved by the impressive Dixon.
In the second minute of the second half the home defence was caught napping with a quick throw in, that found Yeatman completely unmarked, he played in Grant at the far post to fire past Meeds.
The Lambs once again had the lion's share of possession but lacked that cutting edge in the final third of the pitch. They had a number of opportunities to level the score but a combination of poor finishing, dogged defending, and some fine goal keeping the visitors held firm.
In the final 10 minutes with the Lambs pushing forward in numbers to try and get the equaliser, it was the visitors who on the break almost increased their lead. Andy Meeds made two magnificent saves to keep the home side in the game.
The team will have to pick themselves up from this set back, as they have some difficult fixtures in the next few weeks
