North Tawton 29
Torrington Seconds 17
DESPITE the scoreline this was definitely an end of the season encounter with neither side able to raise the game to the standard of which they are capable.
North Tawton, however, were put under early pressure by the visitors and it was somewhat against the run of play that Adrian Grimshaw on the wing broke out for one of his hallmarked tries.
With North Tawton playing better in the loose than the tight set positions, it was from broken play down the middle that put Jamie Hoggins in the centre away. With some strong running he went between the posts for a try, converted by full back Joe Fewings.
North Tawton's grip on the game slowly tightened, with 19-year-old Peter Bragg at prop making some impressive play and the forwards superbly backed up by scrum half Phil Whale.
Captain John Stone at outside half finished the first half with a good try to leave the score 17-0 at half-time.
Torrington came back well in the second half and put North Tawton under considerable pressure, but sound tackling and the occasional counter-attack kept North Tawton in the game. The visitors notched a try by centre Scott Hooper, converted by Rob Bewes.
But North Tawton countered immediately, their forwards showing good backing up that put John Stone over for his second try.
With the game going end to end it was Torrington who scored next with a Shane Berry try.
Again North Tawton replied with a carbon copy of Hoggins first try, the forwards leading the way to put him over for a well taken second try, converted by Joe Fewings.
Torrington came back in the last minute when prop Carlowen went over for a consolation try.
So North Tawton end their season with another win, plus lying second in their league and look forward with optimism to next season.
