I AM carrying out some research into the history of number 166 squadron, a heavy bomber unit based at Kirmington in Lincolnshire during the second world war.

I am trying to trace any surviving relatives of a pilot from the squadron who was killed in action on October 7 1944 during a raid on Emmerich. The airman's name was Flight Lieutenant Geoffrey Underhill Fulford.

He was the son of George Underhill Fulford and Doris Wreford Fulford of Okehampton in Devon. He was just 22 years old when he was killed and is now buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery near Cleves, Germany. The crew were on their third operation when they were lost.

I would be most grateful to hear from any of his surviving relatives. I would like to learn a little bit more about him, in particular to obtain a photograph of him and his crew, and also I wish to pass on the information I have obtained from the official RAF archives.

Finally, I would be very pleased to hear from any of your other readers who might have served with the 166 squadron as either aircrew or ground staff.
