l MAKING the most of nature's natural materials is a wood sculptor from Tavistock assisted by his friend from Chagford.

Mike Woolley who runs Sculptured Furniture, turns his hand creating anything from tables, toy boxes to free standing shelves and lamp stands — all using locally sourced wood. Something he has been doing for 30 plus years. Last year his trade stand so impressed the juges they awarded it best in show.

Mike, who is also a tree surgeon, uses woods that otherwise would be thrown away and one of his main providers is fellow tree surgeon Ashley Butler.

'Utilising bi-products is so important. I'm a tree lover first and foremost and don't like to see natural materials just thrown away or used as firewood, when it can be turned into something useful and beautiful.' said Mike.
