Merit table

Okehampton RFC seconds 10

Newton Abbot RFC seconds 3

WITH the pitch wet and heavy Okehampton seconds were going to need a good team performance to come out on top.

Playing up the slope to start with and being watched by a bigger crowd than normal it was the visitors who scored first after Okehampton conceded a penalty which was converted.

However the Okes soon came back on the attack and centre Lee Carey carved though the defence to score from a well worked set play; the try was converted by Mark Scrivener on his debut for the seconds.

With the home side on top, Newton Abbot conceded a penalty which was kicked by Mark Scrivener to leave the score at 10-3 to Okehampton at half time.

The second half and playing down the slope Okehampton were looking to extend their lead but Newton Abbot came out stronger after making several changes.

Strong defence lead by Ali Mason with some bone crunching tackles for which he was awarded the man of the match.

The rest of the match remained scoreless but both sides provided some good rugby considering the conditions.

This win sees Okehampton seconds edge closer to the top of the merit table.
