Chagford 2

Bovey Tracey Reserves 1

ALTHOUGH Chagford had seen off lower division opponents in the previous rounds, they were under no illusions in meeting division three side Bovey Tracey.

Sure enough the hosts had to come from behind in the third round to ensure progress to the quarter-finals. Both teams started strongly with Chagford having more possession but Bovey Tracey launching quick balls forward form midfield.

Bovey took an eighth minute lead, through Dan Sowerby. Out wide on the right flank and unmarked, Sowerby was found by a great pass and sped through on goal. Botham made up lost ground quickly but, in making a superb tackle, the young full-back was stunned to see the ball cannon off Sowerby's legs and into the home net with Wills stranded.

Within minutes of the goal, Botham's day was worsened as he was floored by a strong tackle and took no further part in the game.

Chagford steadily took control and were unlucky not to equalise before half-time. Miller and Gavillett both spurned chances, Scott fired narrowly wide and Davis also put the ball wide of goal when sent through by Scott.

The hosts were not having everything their own way though, Wills in goal having to make a couple of smart saves.

In the second half the hosts had more of the play. Eventually the breakthrough came as Oscar Emanuel scored a deserved equaliser.

Steve Scott then put away a superb shot, continuing his ratio of a goal a game.

Bovey were by no means out of it but the home defence held strong. This was a well fought contest but a vital win for Chagford.

* This Saturday Chagford are away to Waldon Athletic, kick-off 2pm.

Chagford Reserves 0

THIS was really a match, against a team going well three divisions above them, that Chagford wanted to get out of the way, following their weather enforced break.

Just a single goal separated the teams in this third round tie right up until the 67th minute, when Chagford's Jon Philpott received an elbow in the eye and had to go off.

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors and the remaining 20 minutes turned into a nightmare best forgotten.

*l The Reserves now travel to second placed Ipplepen Reserves in their division five cup match, with the prospect of another difficult match.
